Before you create. Java tellraw requires command permission. §-formatted text support depends on the field and platform; it cannot be assumed to work in every chat box.

How to use Color Code Maker

Type your message and choose a color.
Select Java tellraw or Bedrock formatting text.
Copy the output and use it in the stated context.

What you will get

Browse Minecraft formatting colors and generate colored Java tellraw commands or Bedrock formatting text. Output: Java tellraw command or §-formatted text. You can use this tool without connecting a Minecraft or Microsoft account.

Minecraft color codes, formatting and text generation

Use the Minecraft color codes chart to compare all 16 standard colors and their section-sign codes. The text generator previews your message and creates either a Java tellraw command or Bedrock section-sign formatted text.

Choose the output context before copying. A Java command needs command permission, while Bedrock formatting depends on the destination text field. The generator escapes Java text, including quotes and backslashes; one format is not suitable for every chat box.

How do I use Minecraft color and formatting codes?

Use the chart to find a color, then select the destination before generating text. Java output is a tellraw command; Bedrock output uses section-sign formatting for fields that accept it. A color code is not guaranteed to work in every chat box. The examples below the chart show green text, resetting and bold formatting.

These 16 standard colors are available in this generator. Java tellraw uses the named color field; supported Bedrock text fields use the section-sign code. Not every chat box accepts section-sign formatting.

Examples and formatting

§aHello§r uses green text then resets formatting in a supported Bedrock field. §l makes subsequent text bold. The Java equivalent is /tellraw @a {"text":"Hello","color":"green"}; use "bold":true for bold text. Commands need the appropriate permission.

Worked example

/tellraw @a {"text":"Hello","color":"green","bold":false}

Use the generated text

Choose the output context first. Java tellraw generates a command that requires permission in the world or server. Bedrock formatting produces section-sign text for fields that support it. Pasting either format into an arbitrary chat field does not make that field support formatting.

Common problems & next steps

Java chat displays the command as text or rejects it

Use a supported command input with the required permission. The generated output is a tellraw command, not ordinary colored chat text.

Bedrock shows § characters literally

That field or platform may not accept formatting codes. Use a context that explicitly supports them; do not assume all chat boxes do.

Quotes broke my command

Copy the complete generated output. The generator escapes quotation marks and backslashes in Java JSON; manually editing those escapes can break it.
