Merge Minecraft Resource Packs: Conflict Guide

Combine same-edition Minecraft packs, choose which texture wins, review the merge report and avoid losing conflicting files.

Step-by-step workflow

  1. Choose packs for the same Minecraft edition and target version. Convert supported assets separately if editions differ.
  2. Add sample pack A and then sample pack B, or upload your own permitted archives. Keep the originals.
  3. Review duplicate paths. A later pack wins when both contain the same texture file.
  4. Change the order deliberately. With A followed by B, the original B stone image wins; reversing the order selects A.
  5. Download the merged pack and inspect packlab-merge-report.json for the actual order and conflict rules.
  6. Install the matching Java ZIP or Bedrock MCPACK and check activation and priority in a separate test world.

Worked A / B conflict

Both supplied Java samples contain the same stone texture path with different original colors. The downloadable merged example uses A then B. Its final stone PNG is extracted from that actual archive.

Which JSON entries can coexist?

Supported language, sound and texture-atlas dictionaries can retain independent entries. Same-name entries and unhandled files follow the selected priority. The merger does not reconcile arbitrary game logic; inspect overwritten entries in the report.

Recovering a missing texture

Compare the conflicting path with the report and reorder the inputs if the wrong pack wins. A merged archive has one file per path. Keep original files so you can export again with a different priority.

Verified archive example: merge conflict

2 recorded path conflicts. Pack B supplies the final stone PNG, verified byte for byte. Checked 2026-10-28 by inspecting the downloadable archives.

Historical sample: This sample uses the original later-file-wins policy. It does not demonstrate current structured JSON entry merging.
