Before you create. 2D uses an image or the skin head face. Java 3D exports cuboids, Classic / Slim arms and optional outer skin layers with the original texture. Bedrock 3D uses a hand-bound attachable, with a flat fallback for inventory, dropped items and the revival popup. Revival timing and particles are unchanged; game rendering and hand placement are untested. Pack exports target the stated format; they have not been tested inside Minecraft. Keep a backup and test in a separate world.

How to use Totem Maker

Upload an image for 2D, or a 64 × 64 skin for 3D.
Choose 2D or 3D, select the edition, then set fitting or skin layers.
Download PNG or the matching edition resource pack.

What you will get

Create a flat Java / Bedrock totem texture, or export Java 3D item models and experimental Bedrock held-item 3D skin models. Output: PNG, Java ZIP or Bedrock MCPACK. Java resource packs target 1.21–1.21.1, format 34. Bedrock resource packs use manifest v2; custom block add-ons target 1.21.80. PBR exports declare separate Vibrant Visuals 1.21.120+ / RTX 1.21+ targets. See the export settings and compatibility note for this tool.

Create a custom Totem of Undying texture pack

Use your own image for a flat totem texture, or upload a 64 × 64 skin and choose 3D skin model for a full player-shaped Java totem. Classic / Slim and outer-layer controls affect the exported cuboid model and original skin texture.

Flat textures export for Java or Bedrock. The 3D item model targets Java 1.21–1.21.1 and uses the existing Totem of Undying item. It does not alter revival timing or particles. Bedrock exports an experimental hand-bound 3D attachable, with a flat PNG fallback for inventory, dropped items and the revival popup. The website preview does not prove hand placement. Game rendering has not been validated.

How do I turn a Minecraft skin into a custom totem?

Upload a 64 × 64 skin or transfer it from Skin Editor. Choose 2D texture for a flat Java / Bedrock replacement, or 3D skin model for a Java item model or experimental Bedrock held-item attachable with Classic / Slim arms and outer layers. Bedrock inventory and the revival popup keep a flat fallback. Download the pack for the selected style. The existing totem item is replaced; revival timing and particles remain unchanged.

Edit the source skin first

Custom totem maker for Java and Bedrock textures

Use image input for a flat totem, or skin input for a head texture or a true Java 3D mini-player model. Choose Classic / Slim arms and outer layers for 3D, then export the Java model pack or experimental Bedrock held-item attachable. Bedrock keeps a flat PNG fallback outside the hand view. Flat PNG and texture-pack exports support Java and Bedrock. The model changes the existing item; it does not alter revival timing or particles. Inspect transparency and test the result in the stated game version.

How do I get a Totem of Undying rather than change its texture?

Making a totem texture does not give your player the item. Minecraft’s official guide describes obtaining a Totem of Undying from an evoker and holding it for its effect. Use this maker when you want to change the appearance of an existing totem. The generated resource pack changes the texture; it does not add an item recipe or award an item.

Both example packs replace the existing totem with the 16 × 16 input PNG. Choose the file for your edition.

Install your totem texture

Choose 2D texture for Java / Bedrock, or 3D skin model for Java 1.21–1.21.1 / experimental Bedrock held items. For 3D, import a 64 × 64 skin and select Classic / Slim and outer layers; the pack contains actual model cuboids and the original skin PNG. Bedrock binds the model to the held vanilla item and keeps a flat fallback for inventory, dropped items and the revival popup; hand placement and game rendering are untested. Both modes replace the existing Totem of Undying. They do not change revival timing or particles. Install the chosen resource pack and inspect the item in a test world.

Java resource pack ZIP

  1. Use Java 1.21–1.21.1 for this format-34 export. Keep the downloaded ZIP intact.
  2. In Minecraft, open Options → Resource Packs → Open Pack Folder. Copy the ZIP into that folder.
  3. Return to Resource Packs, move the pack into the selected list, then choose Done. Give it priority over other packs changing the same texture or sound.

If Minecraft reports an incompatible version, check the target before enabling the pack. Renaming the ZIP does not convert its version. Test your result in a separate world.

Bedrock resource pack MCPACK

  1. Save the MCPACK and use your device’s Open with / Share action to open it with Minecraft Bedrock.
  2. Wait for the import result. In a test world’s settings, open Resource Packs → My Packs and activate the imported pack.
  3. Open the world and inspect the replaced texture. Check pack priority if another active pack changes the same item.

Common problems & next steps

The texture still looks vanilla

Enable the correct edition’s resource pack and check priority. Hold a Totem of Undying; this replaces that existing item.

Skin input only uses the head

That is the current 2D skin-head treatment. Use image input if you want to draw a different full texture.

Transparent edges look wrong

Keep PNG transparency. A JPEG has no alpha channel; erased pixels in the editor stay transparent in PNG output.
